- Out-of-Character Questions -

In-game name: Chief Petty Officer EENG Troy, Troyus Baker

Steam 64 ID: 76561198108628938

Discord ID: .syc0.

How well do you know this character's lore can you give insight on it?: After surviving his defeat by Obi-Wan, he rebuilt himself and eventually formed the Shadow Collective during the Clone Wars by uniting major crime syndicates like Death Watch, Black Sun, and the Pykes.

What experiences do you have?: I have been Commander and High Ranking on multiple servers multiple times, adding up to years of experience.

Why do you think you should be this character?: I think I should play this character because I’ve always really liked Maul and I know his lore pretty well, especially the Shadow Collective and what he’s doing in the early Empire. I get that he’s more calculated, manipulative, and runs things from the shadows through crime syndicates. That’s the version of Maul I’d want to bring into RP. I’ve got a lot of RP experience and I like building factions that give people stuff to do, not just boss people around. If I get the role, I’d focus on making a Shadow Collective/Crimson Dawn style group that’s heavy on story, deals, and long term RP so everyone can have fun with it. I want people to actually enjoy interacting with the faction instead of feeling locked out by it. I’m pretty active and would put time into keeping things moving and interesting. Overall I just think I’d do the character justice while making sure the RP around him stays fun for the server.

What roleplay do you plan on having with this character?: Early on, I’d start with approaching citizens and small gangs, offering protection or profit in exchange for loyalty, and slowly building influence instead of instantly declaring power. That gives room for negotiation RP, betrayals, power struggles, and long term tension with other factions instead of just immediate conflict. I’d love to build toward establishing Shadow Collective as a serious underworld presence during the early Empire, while secretly working toward undermining Imperial control where it benefits us. This could involve smuggling operations, information brokering, assassination contracts, and political manipulation rather than constant combat. Over time, it could evolve into a larger conflict where the Empire starts catching onto our influence, forcing us to either go deeper underground or make bold calculated moves. The goal would be to create a slow burn criminal empire story that gives everyone consistent, high-quality RP to be part of.

What could you offer to the server if you were given this character?: I think I could offer the server something consistent and long term instead of short bursts of RP that die out. I’d build an active, organized criminal faction that creates steady content for bounty hunters, Imperials, smugglers, politicians, and civilians, not just one group. It would give people more reasons to log on because there would always be something happening in the background. Outside of just RP, I’d help keep things organized, fair, and story driven using my GM abilities.I’d make sure it doesn’t turn into random conflict or power gaming. I’d focus on communication and making sure other players are included in storylines and it is not exclusive. A strong Shadow Collective presence adds depth to the server’s world.

How could you improve the roleplay of the server?: I think I could help improve the server’s RP by focusing on long term story. I wouldn’t have Maul walking around constantly, I’d treat him like a big presence in the background, kind of like when the Emperor shows up and it actually means something. Most of the time I’d use a proxy character to run the day to day stuff and keep things active so people always have someone to interact with. That way Maul stays impactful when he does appear, but the faction still feels alive all the time. I like making RP that gives other people things to do, not just focusing on my own character. I’d try to build arcs that involve multiple groups so there’s always something going on like negotiations, betrayals, and investigations. I’m also big on communication and keeping things fair so nobody feels shut out of storylines. I’m pretty active and enjoy keeping momentum going, so I’d be putting in the time to keep plots moving and give people hooks to jump into. Even if I am not on I will ensure the RP continues through higher ranking members or GMs.

How active can you be in this position?: I can be on almost anytime I am not working. I make my own schedule, so I can change it around if need be.

What is the Shadow Collective, and why is Maul uniquely suited to lead it?: The Shadow Collective is a criminal alliance Maul built during the Clone Wars by bringing groups like Death Watch, Black Sun, and the Pyke Syndicate under one banner so he could control the underworld from the shadows. Maul is uniquely suited to lead it because he’s both a former Sith and a survivor who knows how to manipulate people, and rule through intimidation in the shadows. He understands crime, politics, and strategy, and he’s willing to play the long game instead of chasing open power.

- In-Character Questions -

- The Empire has begun to crackdown on the Shadow Collective dismantling one of your key criminal fronts.
Several lieutenants demand immediate retaliation.

• Write the response Maul would give in this situation

Response: Maul wouldn’t rush into open retaliation right away. He’d shut down or relocate any exposed operations, make sure the rest of the Collective goes quiet, and start figuring out exactly how the Empire found that front in the first place. He’d likely suspect a leak or weakness and have his lieutenants focus on securing their own sectors before anything else. Instead of a loud response, he’d play it quiet and calculated, shifting resources, rebuilding elsewhere, and letting the Empire think they dealt a real blow. Once he had better positioning, he’d plan a precise strike that hurts Imperial interests or reclaims influence without exposing himself.
_____________________

- Your lieutenants have started acting in your name without consulting you.

• Write a short in-character response on how Maul would handle this situation.

Response: Maul would see this as a threat to control more than a simple mistake. He’d call the lieutenants in and make it very clear that acting in his name without permission undermines the entire structure of the Collective. Rather than immediately killing them all, he’d make an example out of the one who overstepped the most to re-establish fear and discipline. After that, he’d tighten the chain of command and remind the others that the Collective survives because it moves with purpose, not ego. Anyone useful would be kept in place under closer watch, but they’d understand that their authority only exists because Maul allows it. The message would be simple; initiative is valued, but speaking or acting as if they are him is a line that gets people removed.

_____________________

- You discover that ISB is investigating the wrong criminal faction for your actions.

• Answer this in-character and be sure to reference tone, posture and wording.

Response: Maul does not laugh when he hears the report. He doesn’t even smile at first. He stands motionless, spine straight, hands resting behind his back as his yellow eyes burn quietly beneath lowered brows. For a moment, there is only silence.

When he speaks, his voice is low,  almost thoughtful.

“Then we will allow them to continue.”

He turns slowly, robes shifting with the movement, pacing with deliberate calm rather than excitement. A faint curl touches the edge of his lip now, not joy, but satisfaction.

“The ISB prides itself on precision…and yet it strikes at shadows. We will give those shadows shape. Let them feel certain they are correct.”

He stops, gaze sharpening as it falls on his lieutenants.

“Do not mistake their error for weakness. The Empire learns quickly. We will use this moment to fortify our position…and when their attention shifts, we will already be beyond their reach.”

His tone never rises. It doesn’t need to.

_____________________

- An Imperial officer publicly mocks the Shadow Collective as a joke during a briefing you are secretly monitoring.

• What would you, as Maul do in this situation immediately and over time.

Response: Maul would stay completely still while listening, not reacting outwardly to the mockery. His posture would stay rigid and composed, but there’d be a clear shift in focus, that officer just made himself visible. Immediately, Maul wouldn’t order some loud retaliation. Instead, he’d have the officer quietly investigated; habits, allies, vices, postings, and who around him could be influenced or replaced. To Maul, the insult isn’t the real issue it’s the opportunity to turn arrogance into a weakness.

Over time, he’d respond in a way that feels almost unrelated on the surface. Disruptions would chip away at his credibility. Maybe something goes bad under his watch, or something he was responsible for gets exposed. The goal wouldn’t be public revenge, but a slow dismantling that makes the officer look incompetent or puts him in a position where removal is inevitable. Eventually, the message spreads without Maul ever needing to announce it: mocking the Collective has consequences, even if you never see them coming.

_____________________

- A rival crime syndicate offers to pledge loyalty in exchange for you revealing yourself. They promise fear and unity.

• How do you respond to this offer?

Response: Maul would immediately see the offer for what it is, either desperation or a trap. He would not reveal himself simply to inspire fear. Fear is far more powerful when it is uncertain and distant. He would respond indirectly, likely through a proxy, making it clear that loyalty is proven through action, not spectacle. If they truly seek unity, they will demonstrate it by paying tribute, eliminating a shared enemy, or handing over something of real value. Only after they prove their usefulness would he even consider acknowledging them more directly. To Maul, revealing himself is a strategic decision, not a bargaining chip. If they require his physical presence to remain loyal, then they are weak and weakness has no place in the Collective.

_____________________

- Weeks pass without Maul issuing a single order.

• What effect does this have on the Collective, and how is it intentional?

Response: Weeks of silence would make the Collective tense but focused. Maul’s absence wouldn’t be seen as inactivity, it would feel like pressure building. Lieutenants would become more cautious, double-checking their moves, keeping operations tight because they know he’s always watching even when he isn’t speaking. It keeps them disciplined and a little uneasy, which is exactly how Maul prefers it. The silence is intentional. It forces the Collective to function without constant direction and reveals who is competent, who is impatient, and who might overstep. Anyone who panics, gets sloppy, or starts acting out becomes obvious very quickly. At the same time, it keeps enemies guessing, because without visible movement they can’t predict when or where Maul will act next. When he finally does issue an order again, it lands with more weight, and by then he knows exactly who in his organization is worth keeping close and who isn’t.

I have a lack of knowledge or interaction with you so my comment will probably be lacklustre than most & more on the app itself & other's opinion.

From what I can get from this application, This version of SC seems to be more quality over quantity in a sense with what I'm getting at is that it is more story driven & RP focused than a OPFOR faction like something from Chaos -Insurgency from SCP RP in a sense which can be 50/50 for people for SC but i like it.

The only problem i have per say with the app is the IC question with "You discover that ISB is investigating the wrong criminal faction for your actions."
It feels too LARP like & just suddenly so different from the other responses, I do feel like that could be changed to something more descriptive like the other responses but that is just a me thing.

Questions I have
1 - How are you going to manage PvP
2 - What is your recruitment going to be like for SC Enlisted & what would you look for
3 - Will there be a non combat focused roles for anyone who wants more RP, Grinding than combat

I like a lot of Troy's responses to their questions, especially the RP section. Many factors seem to lead to quality RP, and the sense of involvement from all groups is definitely forthcoming, especially since Civ has been yearning for more quality RP and involvement for a while now.

My questions are roughly around the same as Echo's

1. How will recruitment work for SC, especially those new to the idea CIV/SC?
2. How will you internally structure SC, and what kind of progression will you offer both in terms of Structure and RP/Player development?
3. How would you manage relations between all the groups with the PvP aspects? especially if one group got upset with the other.

Thanks for the +1's! I'll answer all your questions the best I can here.

In regards to PvP:

I'd handle it by keeping things communication first and story driven instead of letting it jump straight to PvP. If tensions start building between groups, l'd reach out OC to make sure everyone's on the same page about tone, stakes, and what kind of outcome people are comfortable with. That way nobody feels blindsided and we can turn the conflict into enjoyable RP rather than a random fight that leaves people annoyed.

In character, l'd try to push negotiations, deals, and buildup before any actual combat happens so there's context and stakes behind it. If PvP does happen, l'd want it to feel earned and fair, with clear expectations and chances for both sides to be involved in the story afterward instead of it just being a win/lose moment. If one group gets upset, I'd pause things, talk it out, and adjust so it stays fun for everyone. The goal is for conflict to create more RP, not kill it, and I'd do my best to keep things respectful, organized, and collaborative across factions.

In regards to recruiting and the structure of Shadow Collective:

Recruitment for the Shadow Collective would be gradual and RP driven rather than instant invites. For civilians or people new to the idea, I'd start with small interactions, jobs, favors, deliveries, information brokering, so they can organically get involved without needing to immediately "join" a crime faction. That lets people feel out the vibe of SC and gives them a chance to build trust in character before being pulled deeper into the organization. It also helps avoid overwhelming newer players and keeps things immersive.

For enlisted/actual members, I'd look for people who are active, respectful in RP, and interested in story over just combat. I'd want players who can handle slow burn arcs, follow a chain of command, and help create RP for others instead of just looking for quick action. Recruitment would likely involve tasks or trials, proving reliability, keeping things discreet, and showing they can work within the group dynamic. I'm not looking to mass recruit; I’d rather keep it smaller and more organized so the faction stays active, consistent, and enjoyable to interact with for the rest of the server.

In regards to the internal structure of the Shadow Collective:

It’d be structured clearly but kept simple so it doesn’t get cluttered. Maul would sit at the top as the final authority, but he wouldn’t handle daily operations. That role would fall to a main proxy/underboss who runs things publicly and keeps the faction active.

Under them would be a small number of lieutenants overseeing areas like smuggling, enforcement, or intel. Then general members would handle jobs and day to day work. The goal is a clean chain of command that stays organized while still giving everyone a clear role and room to create RP.

In regards to non combat focused roles:

I don’t want the Shadow Collective to be combat only, especially since a lot of the best crime RP comes from the buildup and day to day work. There would be plenty of non-combat roles for people who want to focus on money making, logistics, or social RP instead of fighting.

People could handle things like running death stick distribution, mining and resource gathering, crafting weapons, moving shipments, managing fronts, or acting as brokers and informants. Those roles are honestly just as important because they keep the faction funded and give us reasons to interact with the rest of the server. Not everyone needs to be an enforcer, some of the best RP comes from the people keeping the operation running behind the scenes.

Hope I answered all your questions! Feel free to reach out with anything else!

Also @Echo in regards to the LARP

I also don’t love doing that stuff but I felt like the question was literally asking to reply in-character. I may have misunderstood that but hey the wording may be ambiguous. I’ll answer in a bit less of a in-character way.

Maul wouldn’t move to correct the mistake, he’d take advantage of it. He’d quietly order the Collective to avoid drawing attention while subtle misinformation gets pushed to keep the ISB focused on the wrong target. Like small nudges like false leads or rumors that reinforce what the Empire already believes.

At the same time, he’d use the breathing room to strengthen operations and figure out how the investigation started in the first place. The goal wouldn’t be to gloat or overplay it, but to stay patient and let the Empire waste time and resources. If anything, it becomes a chance to tighten control and maybe even shift suspicion onto rivals while the Collective stays in the shadows.
