How well do you know this character's lore can you give insight on it?
While writing up this application, I took a day to learn his lore, how he handled stuff and watched a few clips from media he is in and think I have a somewhat reliable understanding of Darth Maul’s lore. From what I gathered he was born in 54 BBY on Dathomir to Mother Talzin, the leader of the Nightsisters, and raised in a culture deeply rooted in dark side traditions. In 42 BBY, Maul was taken by Darth Sidious and trained as his Sith apprentice from a young age, subjected to brutal physical and psychological conditioning. His upbringing as a Dathomirian instilled in him a deep hatred for the Jedi and the light side of the Force, a hatred that Sidious deliberately refined and weaponized.
What experiences do you have?:Most of my experience comes from Clone Wars–era Star Wars servers, with some time spent on Imperial-era servers. I have a solid working knowledge of both settings.
Why do you think you should be this character?:
I believe I would be a good fit for this character because it would create meaningful and engaging roleplay opportunities not only for myself, but for others across the server. Through this character, I intend to actively develop the Shadow Collective and give players a clear path to interact with it, whether as allies, rivals, or adversaries. I also plan to build strong reputations and relationships both within the Collective and throughout the wider server. While I have not played Darth Maul before, I have a strong understanding of his values, mindset, and moral code, and I am confident in my ability to portray him accurately. My goal is to deliver consistent, lore-respectful roleplay that is engaging, serious when needed, and enjoyable for everyone involved.
What roleplay do you plan on having with this character?:
The roleplay I plan to pursue as Darth Maul focuses on rebuilding and expanding the Shadow Collective as a long-term goal. This includes manipulating political targets, removing weak or ineffective leaders, and installing stronger figures into positions of power to better support the Collective’s influence. I intend to actively recruit mercenaries, crime syndicates, and Mandalorians, giving multiple factions reasons to interact with and oppose the Collective. Through these efforts, I aim to create long-term conflicts and interconnected storylines that involve the wider server and encourage sustained, engaging roleplay.
What could you offer to the server if you were given this character?:
If I were given this character, I would provide consistent, lore-respectful roleplay that creates meaningful opportunities for other players to engage and enjoy. Through Darth Maul, I would help drive server-wide storylines by developing the Shadow Collective into an active, living faction that others can interact with as allies, rivals, or enemies. I would focus on creating long-term conflicts, political tension, and organized events that involve multiple groups rather than isolated roleplay. Above all, I would remain reliable, fair, and collaborative, ensuring interactions are enjoyable, impactful, and beneficial to the overall roleplay environment.
How could you improve the roleplay of the server?:
How I could improve the roleplay on the server is by making storylines that are structured, long-term that give players a clear reason to interact with one another. I would encourage roleplay that values consequence, consistency, and character development, rather than short or isolated encounters. By involving multiple factions and groups into ongoing conflicts, political tension and planned events, I would help make the server feel more connected and alive. I aim to lead by example, setting up a standard for fair, immersive, and lore-respectiful roleplay that others can engage with and build upon.
How active can you be in this position?:I can be pretty active, though at some point in the future it may change
What is the Shadow Collective, and why is Maul uniquely suited to lead it?:The Shadow Collective was a criminal alliance formed during the Clone Wars by Darth Maul, uniting syndicates, mercenaries, and Mandalorian groups under his control. With influence from Mother Talzin, Maul used the Collective to undermine Darth Sidious’s plans and establish his own power base. Maul is uniquely suited to lead it due to his Sith training, strategic mindset, and ability to rule through fear, strength, and discipline, allowing him to control factions that would otherwise turn on each other.
- In-Character Questions -
- The Empire has begun to crackdown on the Shadow Collective dismantling one of your key criminal fronts.
Several lieutenants demand immediate retaliation.
• Write the response Maul would give in this situation
Response: “The Empire strikes because it fears what it cannot control. This loss isn't a weakness but a test. We do not lash out blindly like animals; we endure, adapt and tighten our grip where they least expect it. Let the Empire believe it has won something today. When we respond, it will be deliberate, precise, and devastating. Any Lieutenants who seek reckless vengeance instead of obedience will be removed and replaced.”
- Your lieutenants have started acting in your name without consulting you.
• Write a short in-character response on how Maul would handle this situation.
Response: “You act in my name without my consultation. This is not Loyalty, it is arrogance. I am the Shadow Collective, and my will is not assumed, it is to be obeyed. This will be your One and Only Warning. The next time one of you forget who you serve, I will remind you.. personally.”
- You discover that ISB is investigating the wrong criminal faction for your actions.
• Answer this in-character and be sure to reference tone, posture and wording.
Response: Staying silent for a moment, my posture would be rigid and composed, hands clasped behind my back as my gaze sharpens. Letting the air stay heavy before speaking
“Good. Let them chase ghosts.” His voice staying low and controlled, carrying no triumph or glory, only cold calculation. “We do nothing to correct their mistake. Feed it quietly. Remove any thread that leads back to us, and tighten our hold elsewhere. The Empire’s attention is a weapon we can exploit. Today, it is aimed away from the true shadow collective. We will not waste that gift.”
- An Imperial officer publicly mocks the Shadow Collective as a joke during a briefing you are secretly monitoring.
• What would you, as Maul do in this situation immediately and over time.
Response: Standing still in the shadows, posture unyielding, my expression would be almost unreadable as the officer’s words echo through the briefing. And then I act.
“He will not be corrected publicly,” Maul says quietly, his tone cold and deliberate. “He will be corrected permanently.” Immediately, I order for him to be marked and monitored, learning his habits, allies, and weaknesses while allowing the insult to go unanswered. Over time, I would engineer a precise response, arranging for the officer’s credibility to be destroyed, his command undermined, and his disappearance framed as an internal failure or rival action, whichever thought comes first. The Collective’s answer is not to be loud or immediate, but inevitable, ensuring the empire learns that mockery carries consequences.
- A rival crime syndicate offers to pledge loyalty in exchange for you revealing yourself. They promise fear and unity.
• How do you respond to this offer?
Response: I would not rise to the bait, instead choosing to remain seated, posture still and dominant, eyes fixed forward as if the speakers are already beneath notice.
“If your loyalty requires my presence, it isn’t loyalty, but desperation.” His voice, calm, edged with quiet menace. “Fear doesn’t come from promises. It comes from certainty. You will prove your usefulness without seeing me, without my name, and without my face. Obey, and you may yet earn a place within the Shadow. Fail, and you will learn why I do not need to be seen to be feared.”
- Weeks pass without Maul issuing a single order.
• What effect does this have on the Collective, and how is it intentional?
Response: The silence is by design, deliberately and suffocating. Without orders, tension spreads through the Shadow Collective as lieutenants begin to question one another, ambition surfacing and weak leadership exposing itself. Those who are disciplined maintain control and keep operations stable, while the impatient overreach, make mistakes, or betray their fear.
The absence is intentional. Maul (I) allows uncertainty to act as a blade, revealing who rules through loyalty and competence and who relies on his presence to survive. When he finally speaks, the collective is smaller, sharper, and fully aware that his silence was as much of a test as any command.
