What position are you applying for?:

Stormtrooper Corps: Commander Kimmund

How well do you know this character's lore?:

Kimmund was the Second-in-Command of the 1st Legion within the Stormtrooper Corps. The 1st Legion was an Elite Unit under the Command of Darth Vader. Kimmund commanded troops during the Battle of Batuu, where they defended the Chimaera, Vader, and Thrawn against the Grysk and their attacking vessels. Kimmund, accompanied by Vader, also led the Assault on a Mokivj factory: The 1st Legion assaulted Grysk forces and rescued a number of Chiss that were held captive; however, the Grysk had fled with additional prisoners. The Legion pursued and boarded a Grysk Ship to rescue the remaining prisoners. Both Thrawn and Vader praised Commander Kimmund’s performance and regarded the 1st Legion as an exceptional unit. Kimmund was known for his adaptability and didn’t let unanticipated circumstances fail a mission. He also managed internal tensions between his allies to ensure his missions were a success.

What experiences do you have?:

While I do not specifically have experience commanding a Battalion, within my 3,500 hours of playtime in Garry’s Mod, I’ve had multiple roles of influence in SWRP. Most notable of which is being the Leader/Main Overseerer of a Pilot Program, which included creating documentation as well as a structured training/tryout. I also have multiple hours of experience as an NCO: training individuals, sometimes creating documentation, as well as leading troops in some scenarios.

Why do you wish to be a Commander?:

Even though I do not have experience in a direct leadership position, I believe I could make a great commander. I also believe this role would be a solid foundation for strengthening my leadership skills. I have a deep desire to learn and grow as a leader, not only to better the Stormtrooper Corps but also to improve the server. I plan to get in contact with other commanders and those in leadership positions, not only to build relationships between battalions, but also deepen my understanding of what it is to be a commander. I have many ideas for the Corps if accepted to be the Commander, and I would live out these ideas to the fullest. I understand there is no commander role for the Corps, but it would be an excellent addition while sticking true to the original intent of the server. I hope that I can change some minds about this role and spark a change on the server.

What are your plans as Commander?:

-Introducing New Players to the Server-

I think the most important role that this leadership position would have is introducing new players to the server. Any new player who joins if they pass the test to become a TK would automatically be placed under my command. Under this role, I feel as though it would be my responsibility to show new players around. This would include showing them around the map, showing them the different battalions they could join, teaching them the functions of the different battalions, getting them into the discords, telling them about the forums and any open applications, and most importantly, showing them and making them feel welcome into the community and culture. I mean, how many servers do you join where a commander comes up to you to show you around and truly tries to make you feel welcome? Not many. In my eyes, this would create a great introduction to new players, making them want to stay and get involved with the community.

-Adding a Ranking Structure to TK-

This just means allowing Stormtroopers to have ranks like other battalions. Now I understand why Stormtroopers don’t already have this. My thought is that if new players don’t know what battalion they want to join, they could at least still make some progress in the ranking system. The ranks don’t even have to go that high; they could cap out at SGT.

-Encouraging Players to join battalions-

As the Commander of the Stormtrooper Corps, I will encourage people to join other battalions. I will connect with different battalion commanders and leaders to make it easier for Stormtroopers to secure a position in the battalion they want to join.

-Events-

I think it’s a little unfair to other commanders that they have to lead a battalion that isn’t theirs. Especially one that, at times, can be filled with minges. I am gracefully accepting the position to have to deal with these minges; someone has to, might as well be me. Also, I think it could benefit gamemasters as they now have another actual battalion they could use, especially since Stormtroopers could technically be an attack or defense battalion.

-Creating a Culture for those who want to stay Bucketheads-

This may be a little confusing at first since I would encourage players to join other battalions. However, if you think about it, some people just really don’t want to join a battalion, or maybe the battalion they want to join isn’t in the server yet. You can’t force someone to do something, and if you do, they are most likely going to just leave. For these reasons, I want to create a culture for those who want to stay Bucketheads.

How would you improve the roleplay of the Battalion/Group?:

I feel like I kind of went over this in the previous question, so I’ll just summarize some things. I would encourage new players to join battalions. If they were unsure of the battalion they wanted to join, they would have the opportunity to rank up while within the Corps. Having a commander for the corp in general would help out in events and give the opportunity for gamemasters to utilize another battalion. I would create a culture for those who truly want to stay Bucketheads by creating a separate Discord for them, hosting simulations/training to better our skills, involving the Bucketheads with joint battalion simulations to train with others, possibly hosting challenges, and overall trying to have a good time and bring positivity into the server. I would also create documentation, especially a handbook going over the different units we have and how to use them efficiently and effectively.

How active can you be in this position?:

I can be active during the weekends and sometimes during the weekdays, depending on work.

Notes:
The only thing I wish for is please no neutral comments on my application… let's keep it to +1 and -1, neutral helps no one. I can take the criticism.

Since we as TKs are already the best battalion we should have a CO to lead us to even more glory.

As a previous Stormtrooper Commander, how would you be a cohesive leader and display leadership throughout missions/events and off events? Since you are one of the first faces when players join a TK/ST commander guides those who first join. Additionally, given that the ST/TK battalion isn't the most flashy battalion and may not offer all the perks in the world, how can you retain a working corp and maintain that retention? (You mention "Culture" multiple times, i'd like an example of that culture.)

First off, I would like to thank everyone so far for the support and JC for these great questions.  In my opinion, where a lot of leaders fall short in the server is communication… and you can’t have cohesion without it. As a commander, I will utilize all the tools given to me. I’d have TK’s get into a squad so I can communicate through pings. I’d also have them at least get into both the Stormtrooper radio and the Imperial radio in the game. If I were appointed to be a Field Commander, or Ground Command as Valyrian calls it, I would also like to have all commanders in a Discord chat to swiftly relay orders and have a direct line of communication. I also understand that this method may not work, so I am also willing to play around with the idea and find ways of communication that work for everyone.

Everyone favours different qualities of leaders, as well as having their own definition of leadership. For me, the best qualities a leader can have are trust, strong communication, adaptability, accountability, and self-awareness. If no one can trust you, orders will not be followed. I will strive to build trust with my troops through being in the front lines with them, as well as doing team-building exercises. I’ve already touched on communication, but it is very important. Without communication, you lack clarity and cohesion. Being able to adapt is a necessity, especially during missions. I will always be thinking of multiple different outcomes as well as listening to others about their ideas. Another thing I see that a lot of commanders in Garry’s Mod lack is accountability. Being able to be humble to yourself and humiliate yourself is a must; otherwise, you will never grow. I am always open to learn and fixing my mistakes. Lastly, you can't be a good commander without being self-aware. You need to know your own strengths and weaknesses and play off of them. I like to think I am pretty self-aware. I’m creative, compassionate, goal-driven, and much more. I also understand my weaknesses and areas of growth, and I desire to learn from others to become better.

My goals for the Corps are to maintain its professional, rigid, and dutiful aspects. I want the Corps to always be working on themselves and getting better through simulations, patrols, etc. I will also train the Corps to be almost like a “Wild Card” type of battalion. If Ground Command needs a job done, the Corps won't hesitate. I will have the Corps follow our set core values of “Loyalty, obedience, and total readiness to die for the Empire.” and Vision “Utilize superior training and overwhelming force to maintain Imperial order, ensure loyalty, and act as the primary enforcers of the Galactic Empire's supremacy.” Even though we may be called bucketheads, we are the face of the empire. Therefore, the Corps must uphold a tight and rigid character and lead the Empire to Victory.
