In-game name: Nova Commander Cronal | Blackhole-001 & MAA CEO Barro Derav
Steam 64 ID: 76561198309780238

Discord ID: 317144684159827968

How well do you know this character's lore can you give insight on it?:

Darth Maul is likely the most tragic victim of Palpatine. He was born on Dathomir to the Nightsisters, which were a clan of force-sensitive witches. Maul was kidnapped at an extremely young age by Palpatine and molded not into a Sith Lord, but a weapon of hatred and destruction. Like I had said before, when he was taken under Palpatine's wing, he was never meant to inherit the Sith Legacy, but instead was used against the Jedi, and thrown out when he was no longer needed. His childhood was ruled and defined by brutality, isolation, and rage, forging him into a silent assassin.

What experiences do you have?:

I have plenty of experience when it comes to leadership and opposing factions, however I will say it falls flat when it comes to lightsaber systems. Some of my experience here does not relate to Star Wars, but it is relevant to fostering a good opposing force.

Why do you think you should be this character?: 6 sentence minimum

In all honesty, I think I'm a great fit for this role. I'm incredibly passionate about PvP and opposing faction RP, and I really do think that Shadow Collective has the potential to create some of the most memorable and dynamic roleplay within the server if handled properly. Imagine, two sides pitted against one another, with real stakes and consequences. My ideas can elevate the overall quality of roleplay for not only Shadow Collective itself, but also civilians and the Empire. I also bring the experience and in-depth knowledge that a leader of such a faction should have, allowing me to guide it down a path of immersive, organized, and enjoyable roleplay for the community as a whole. All in all, I believe that I may not be the perfect fit, I will fight and argue, but at the end of the day I have a passion for what is best for everyone, and not just myself.

What roleplay do you plan on having with this character?: 4 sentence minimum
At first, my priorities are as follows; create a relationship with the civilian populace itself, contracting, defending, and recruiting from players that often main their civilian life. Next, I want to work with bounty hunters, not only paying them for their services, but also building rapport with them. After that, I will begin expanding my organization, helping drug dealers with their money-making, guarding criminals on their runs, and demanding pay each and every time. (Mind you, the fee isn't going to be predatory, and is more-so a proof of transaction). Finally, once my group has enough resources and people behind it, I will begin pushing on the Empire. Holding restrictions on the Under-City, small raids here and there, etc. I want to give the Civilians something to live for, under the guise of protection, and I want to make the Empire have a reason to get on. There will be battles, injuries, deaths, negotiations, and everything in between.

What could you offer to the server if you were given this character?: 4 sentence minimum

As Maul, I wouldn't be stepping into a skin; I would be bringing a vision for what the Shadow Collective could mean to the community as a whole. I'm very passionate about this, and I believe that Shadow Collective has the potential to create so much. For the PvPers, they would have plenty of combat to satiate their thirst. For the ISB and Government, there will be political maneuvering and power grabs on both sides. For the civilians, there will be so much RP that can be had. Drug Dealers will be able to interact with us while doing their job, Merchants will be hired to make weapons and medical equipment for us, Ore Miners will have our protection from muggers and murderers, and so much more. I will also create long-lasting scenarios that could span days, weeks, or even months, and there will be little to no shortage of player interactions.

How could you improve the roleplay of the server?: 6 sentences minimum

With everything I've outlined, I believe I can improve the overall quality of roleplay by creating structured, story-driven conflict rather than scattered, random, or disconnected encounters. Good opposing-faction RP isn't just about fighting; it's about tension, buildup, politics, consequences, and recovery. By developing the Shadow Collective with clear goals and consistent leadership, I can help ensure that every action has weight. Raids would not be mindless, restrictions wouldn't be arbitrary, and conflict with the Empire would naturally escalate based on events, negotiations, and interactions. The structure I've laid out will give players something to emotionally invest in. I will also integrate civilians and independent players into faction storylines instead of leaving them to the side. Through contracts, protection arrangements, security work, and so many other opportunities, civilians will gain genuine reasons to engage beyond surface-level greetings. Bounty Hunters receive consistent, and meaningful work. Criminals operate within a functioning economy rather than isolated incidents. By building all of these interconnected systems together, roleplay becomes collaborative instead of fragmented.

How active can you be in this position?:

While my schedule is a bit inconsistent, I can promise that I will be on every single day, for hours at a time. I can't very well follow through with all my goals if I'm not playing.

What is the Shadow Collective, and why is Maul uniquely suited to lead it?:

The Shadow Collective is a vast criminal organization created and led by Darth Maul after his return from death. It's an alliance between some of the most powerful organizations that are unified under a single banner. These groups include Death Watch, Black Sun, the Pyke Syndicate, and Crimson Dawn. They were not only brought together through the same goals, but through manipulation. It's purpose was to build an independent power-base that can be used to position Maul to challenge the powers that be and his former master, Sidious. I believe that Maul is uniquely suited to lead this organization because he understand every angle. Sith doctrine, criminal enterprise, warfare, and manipulation. He's seen it all, and knows how to do it very well. Maul thrives in open inter-faction tension. He does not rely solely on ideology; he leverages the human emotions; fear, loyalty, debt, opportunity, and chaos. The adaptability that Maul has come to harness so well allows him to unite groups of widely different nature.

- In-Character Questions -

- The Empire has begun to crackdown on the Shadow Collective dismantling one of your key criminal fronts.
Several lieutenants demand immediate retaliation.

• Write the response Maul would give in this situation

Response: Maul's reaction would not be explosive or immediate. His lieutenants may want retaliation, but Maul knows better. He would feel angry, yes, but that anger would be focused into calculation. The Empire's strike would give Maul incredibly important information. He would want to know exactly how the Empire managed to find the key position, who spoke about what, where security failed, and whether the Empire's move was actually strategic, or simply a show of power. Rather than authorizing an immediate reaction, he would deliberately deny his lieutenants the satisfaction of revenge. He understands that retaliation would make the Shadow Collective seem predictable. Instead, he would switch up his operations. He would reallocate resources, restructure other fronts, and reinforce loyalty through fear and reward. Maul would immediately shift from his normal outward appearance, to a much more cold and calculating man. His goal would not be a dramatic attack, but destabilization.
_____________________

- Your lieutenants have started acting in your name without consulting you.

• Write a short in-character response on how Maul would handle this situation.

Response: Like before, Maul would not erupt with rage or fury, he would become cold. He would deliberately summon the Lieutenant privately and make it crystal clear that the Shadow Collective has one will, and that will is his. Afterwards, he could go a few different routes depending on the severity of the problem. He could either strip the Lieutenant of rank and stature, assigning them some lesser post, or he could eliminate the Lieutenant entirely. It's important to understand that none of this would be done out of rage, but out of necessity for the continuity of the machine.
_____________________

- You discover that ISB is investigating the wrong criminal faction for your actions.

• Answer this in-character and be sure to reference tone, posture and wording.

Response: Maul's reaction to this would be very subtle. At the revelation, his posture would remain the same - calculating, orderly, with a faint, crooked smile. He would not show satisfaction, but focus. Maul would immediately forbid any correction of the ISB's mistake, and would instead see this as an opportunity. In Maul's eyes, ISB's mistake would be proof that he is still unseen. Whoever this group is doesn't matter, as it has now become a guise of Maul's true actions. So, in short, he would do nothing.
_____________________

- An Imperial officer publicly mocks the Shadow Collective as a joke during a briefing you are secretly monitoring.

• What would you, as Maul do in this situation immediately and over time.

Response: This is simple, there would be no immediate public action. Instead, Maul would collect the Officer's name, rank, influence, allies, and habits. With this information, he would very slowly orchestrate events to diminish the Officer's influence, causing their life to become more and more difficult as time passes. With a final stroke, when the time is absolutely perfect, Maul would take a visible strike on the Officer, killing them infront of many others. This is to show that Maul knows, he does not forget, and he does not forgive.
_____________________

- A rival crime syndicate offers to pledge loyalty in exchange for you revealing yourself. They promise fear and unity.

• How do you respond to this offer?

Response: Maul would never fully reveal himself to them. He would, however, give them small glimpses of his influence. Small, strategic victories, whispered threats, demonstrations of power, etc. By doing this, he would keep fear sharp, and loyalty nothing but a transaction. In Maul's mind, the Shadow Collective does not thrive because others know who he is, but because they can never fully grasp him. He wants to be seen as an entity, not a man, and he will wiggle his way through anything to ensure that guise continues.
_____________________

- Weeks pass without Maul issuing a single order.

• What effect does this have on the Collective, and how is it intentional?

Response: Of course it is intentional, as is all things that Maul does. The Collective will get rowdy, needing orders to satiate their want for structure. He intentionally starves them out, testing their response. This also doubles as an obsession towards him. When he does finally speak, and finally gives an order, it will be powerful, and will be seen as a necessity instead of a suggestion. It is important to Maul to remain a mystery to all, even his Collective. If he is constantly there, constantly talking, constantly giving orders, then his orders will be less powerful, allowing his Collective to get away with small mishaps and mistakes. This is a deliberate act to foster a need for his leadership, and a loyalty to his image.

From the start with Nova, I'd say the foundation he has done with it has been great but as someone who has been on the outside of it, i can only comment on that & small bits but i hope members of nova can comment on how well he has done from a inside view with later comments.
The RP he has done in public chats with training with the dark prophets (What i assume he has been doing with the Cronal character as I have actively only seen it one time), The MAA civilian faction that he has made shows that he can do rp in general & would be interesting to see what could happen under his leadership.

One last thing, I feel like in my view comparing the IC answers to this & air's, this is typed better & feels believable of what would happen in the server

Questions of Mine

1 - How are you going to balance PvP encounters with SC, one main worry I have is just constant attacks on imperial players which will lead into frustration to not play on the main server normally. So I would like to see how you would manage SC with that
2 - If people are interested in SC but don't have the time or interest to play & main civilian before SC, How would one go around that to get into SC?
- because someone could be great on the imperial side with RP but doesn't do well on the civi side on their own.

I feel like he put in a lot of effort to really, truly understand how Maul would think and act. And to help explain his goals and thoughts on his questions clearly. Not only that, Costco's goals seem to be well-aligned if executed properly, and I think that will make the server more enjoyable for everyone.

I do like the idea of involving CIV characters/player cause for a long while now people have been wanting to make some of their Civilian Lives intertwined with server roleplay for a long while now.

As for any questions:

1. How will the recruitment process go? Especially for those new to CIV and SC?
2. How will you oocly work with other people if, for some reason, people get upset in Empire or SC over PvP interactions and such?
3. How will you progress things within SC? Both structure and roleplay-wise?

In my honest opinion, I was secretly hoping that someone such as Costco would step up to the plate to take on the position of Maul. I absolutely have faith that he will start the Shadow Collective on the right foot, and make the faction thrive to promote RP among the civilian and imperial players. A very passionate roleplayer and an exemplary player on the server. I'm curious to see what Costco will do to start recruitment of the faction and how his leadership in the Shadow Collective will positively affect the server as a whole.

Hey y'all, I wanted start this out by saying thank you for reading and taking in my application. It took me a lot of work and I hope that, at the very least, it was an enjoyable read.

To start off with responses to your questions, I'll start with Echo's;

For one, Echo, I can promise you that there will not be constant attacks on the Empire. I plan on giving them more RP focused conflict. A great way to deal with these issues is by keeping OOC communication with other leaders, possibly even creating a channel in the Imperial or Civilian discord to keep relations up. We have to understand that we're all here to have fun, and if one side isn't enjoying their time, then something is going wrong. Everything about balancing encounters outside of weapon balances themselves is communication. While I may be the Empire's enemy ICly, I am not, and will not be their enemy OOCly.

As for your second question; while Civilians that roleplay with us on a consistent basis and show the ability to uphold passive story-lines may be grandfathered in to the Collective, I fully plan on allowing anyone on a civilian whitelist to go through specific RP trials in order to become an initiate. Now, there will be RP on how to get into a position where you can do the trials. I want Civilians to find members of the Shadow Collective, ask them questions, ask them how to enlisted, etc. I want there to be a flow of character development from Civilian all the way up to Captain that is consistent and stable. Since Shadow Collective is certainly militaristic in nature, there will be perfect RP for people who enjoy the Occupation-style RP that the Empire does, and people who enjoy the more passive side to roleplay.

For Ark's Questions;

The recruitment process will be organic and RP-oriented. There will not be tryouts, but trials. I do not have a 100% perfect process for this just yet, however I can say some things about it. I want Civilians to feel like they're being slowly brought into a Mafia Family. Trust, loyalty, and skill will be tested through jobs as the Civilian gradually makes their way up the chain of Civilian Leadership. Once that civilian becomes an initiate, they will already be well-known within the local populace, and said populace would then place trust in the new Initiate, therefore strengthening the bond between the Collective and Civilians.

For your second question, I believe I already explained this in my attempt to answer one of Echo's questions. I would like to build OOC rapport with the Empire's leadership. They deserve to be heard just as much as I would. As long as conversations can be had, and deals can be struck, then any frustration or toxicity will quickly simmer down. This is how it was done in servers I've previously been a part of, and I can say it works extremely well.

For your third, I do have a rough structure outlined, so I will share it here.

Ranking Structure for Shadow Collective:

Alor'ad - Maul (This translates to "Leader of the clan")

Ori'verda - Captain (Roughly translating to "Champion" or "Great Warrior")

Ver'alor - Lieutenant (Roughly translating to "Influenced by the Alor")

Ruus'alor - Sergeant (Roughly translating to "Seasoned Warrior")

Alor'uus - Corporal (This literally just stands for Corporal, lol)

Verd'ika - Warrior (Roughly translating to "Little Warrior")

Ad'ika - Initiate (Roughly translating to "Little One")

I will then have Civilians that wish to be a part of the criminal organization on a less official capacity:

Shadow Collective Ruus'alor

^

Black Sun Officer | Pyke Officer | Death Watch Officer | Crimson Dawn Officer

^

Trafficking Operations | Drug Making Operations | Soldier Operations | Counter-Intelligence Operations

Each Ruus'alor will control a separate gang, guiding them along Maul's ideal path, while the ranks below may act as a sort of enforcer of Maul's will.

Of course, this is incredibly ambitious, and may not be the case currently, however this is my end goal.

Costco is really good at leading and encouraging roleplay within whatever he leads. From my time under his command in Nova he has given us many opportunities to engage in roleplay with not just us but other battalions so i think he would be a great fit for maul.

His responses give me the feeling he really understands maul's character and would be able to fit into it perfectly

In the first iteration of VN. I was lucky enough to work under you when you were Atty. As the Shadow Lead at that time I found you to take your job seriously, but more importantly you still provided people with enjoyable RP and knew when to take it non serious.

Whilst in CW time of VN:1 Whilst I did not serve with you, I still worked very closely with you on the 41st. Which you continued to show and prove to me that you could be valuable in any position of Command, and arguably, High Command too.

The time as Banshee was one I also am able to verify to 100%. As Shadow once again you helped foster the Stormtroopers into something worthwhile and enjoyed by many players on VN:2.

The time I speak of, which is now, is the one I can give the most opinion of. As I work closely with you in Nova.

Costco.

I'm not speaking of virtues, or whatever people like to say in these applications. But I know truly in my mind and others too that you will absolutely me an amazing fit for Maul on this server. The passion and time I see you put into each role you become never fails to make me see good in GMod. Its sad to see you leave, and I feel more sad saying I think my mantra of leaving with you is falling. Only because I know you will need no help from friends or others to get Shadow Collective what it needs to be. But you've put so much time and effort into this server that this seems like a perfect step up in the echelon of RP you work towards.

Your application responses hold no issue in my head. And fortunately all questions I had, have been answered.
